Holiday Storage Tips

Already dreading having to put your holiday decorations back in your storage unit this year? The secret to storing your holiday decorations is to put the items you want to take out last, first inside the storage unit so that they are at the rear of the storage unit. Decorations you want to access first, put towards the front of the unit. Putting your decorations in the order you put them up in your home will save time and headache during the holiday season. Here are some tips from your Neighbors to keep in mind when putting your holiday items away this year:

-Keep yourself organized. Be prepared with zip lock bags, markers, cardboard boxes/totes. Label each item that goes into the storage unit and keep a running list of inventory so you know exactly where your favorite ornament is.

-Store items together that will be displayed together. If you have a display you like to put up each year, such as Santa and his sleigh in the front yard – group those items together.

-Give your lights some extra attention before putting them inside the storage unit. Check for blown bulbs, and replace them before storing. Also to prevent a jumbled mess of lights for the next year, string lights around a flat sheet of cardboard so that they stay neat.

-Recycle used tissue paper and wrapping paper by running it through a shredder and using it as packing material for your fragile items.

-Don’t forget to store your holiday wrapping paper and gift bags with your other holiday items in the unit. Wrapping paper is commonly forgotten, and left to clutter up closets and bedrooms after the holidays.
