Holiday Storage Tips

Already dreading having to put your holiday decorations back in your storage unit this year? The secret to storing your holiday decorations is to put the items you want to take out last, first inside the storage unit so that they are at the rear of the storage unit. Decorations you want to access first, put towards the front of the unit. Putting your decorations in the order you put them up in your home will save time and headache during the holiday season. Here are some tips from your Neighbors to keep in mind when putting your holiday items away this year:

-Keep yourself organized. Be prepared with zip lock bags, markers, cardboard boxes/totes. Label each item that goes into the storage unit and keep a running list of inventory so you know exactly where your favorite ornament is.

-Store items together that will be displayed together. If you have a display you like to put up each year, such as Santa and his sleigh in the front yard – group those items together.

-Give your lights some extra attention before putting them inside the storage unit. Check for blown bulbs, and replace them before storing. Also to prevent a jumbled mess of lights for the next year, string lights around a flat sheet of cardboard so that they stay neat.

-Recycle used tissue paper and wrapping paper by running it through a shredder and using it as packing material for your fragile items.

-Don’t forget to store your holiday wrapping paper and gift bags with your other holiday items in the unit. Wrapping paper is commonly forgotten, and left to clutter up closets and bedrooms after the holidays.

Need more space in your driveway? Park at Neighborhood Storage!

Photobucket

Neighborhood Storage is a convenient place to store your vehicle of any type; your car, truck, trailer, boat, ATV or RV. Parking at Neighborhood Storage frees up valuable space in your driveway, garage or on your property. Because of Neighborhood Storage's month to month leases you also have no long term commitment, and can store during off season or short term as needed.

When storing a vehicle, consider these questions:
- What types of units and spaces are available for vehicles? Can your vehicle be stored inside a drive up unit instead of a outside parking space?
- What size units or spaces are available, and what is the maximum length of the vehicle that can be stored in those areas?
- What are the hours of operation for bringing, removing or accessing your vehicle?

Neighborhood Storage has a few basic guidelines for vehicle storage to be considered also. The vehicle must be roadworthy, proof of registration and insurance required. And, customers cannot occupy the vehicle while it is being stored.

Neighborhood Storage offers a variety of vehicle storage options, call a storage consultant today at 1-800-456-0698 to find the perfect one for your needs.

Organizing Your Storage Unit

Having a good organization plan when moving your items into storage makes accessing your items while they are stored easier, and removing the items from your unit later less of a hassle. First, consider what items you are storing, why you are storing them and whether or not you will need to access them while they are in storage. If you are storing furniture, you will want to think about how they are going to come out of storage - rather than how they will go in. For example, you are storing your entire home while you are in transition from moving from location to another, you will want to pack your bedroom furniture last towards the front of the unit so that when you begin to unpack your bed is the first item moved and put together so you have a place to sleep at the end of your moving day.

If you are storing clothing in your storage unit, make it easily accessible. Especially if the items you are storing are 'off season'. If the seasons change while your items are still in storage you will want them towards the front of your unit and easy to get to. If you store the clothing near the back of the unit, you will have to remove all the furniture and boxes in front of your swimsuit and flip flops, in order to be ready for the beach this next summer!

Also, keep a list of what you have stored in your unit and clearly label boxes and totes so that when you go to your storage unit you can find exactly what you are looking for.
